Falcon Guides Ultralight Backpackin' Tips

rated 2 of 5 stars The good/beneficial advice presented in this book simply cannot make up for the REALLY BAD opinions that the author brings forth as part of Ultralight (UL) backpacking. <<I borrowed it = Library book>> Opinions are like armpits--Everyone has a couple and some of them stink. The problem is when someone with stinky opinions gets himself published, many begin to accept those opinions as fact. Mike Clelland has had the good fortune of finding a publisher looking to cash in on the UL craze. Full review

The Ultimate Hang An Illustrated Guide to Hammock Camping

rated 4 of 5 stars Very good book for beginners. This book gave an understanding of hammock camping. It gives you the knowledge to ask the questions you need to know. The reasons for not giving 5 stars is no book can answer all question. A must-read for anybody just starting in hammock camping. I recommend electronic copy from Amazon as it's cheaper. Full review

The Ultimate Hang An Illustrated Guide to Hammock Camping

rated 5 of 5 stars Derek Hansen's "The Ultimate Hang" is a must read for anyone serious (or curious) about becoming a hammock hanger. Hansen thoroughly covers the information relevant to hammock camping in an easy-to-understand manner. The illustrations are both whimsical and informative, reminding the reader that hammock hanging is ultimately about enjoyment. This book should be in every hanger's library. Hammock camping is not an intuitive practice. While most people can pitch a tent and crawl into a sleeping bag,… Full review

Pro-Knot Outdoor Knots - Waterproof Plastic Fan Pack

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Small and lightweight, it has all the key knots that an average backpacker, Boy Scout, or outdoors person may need. What is it and when to use it? Just recently bought this from an online marketplace. Was just over $4 and while that seems a bit expensive for info on only 20 knots, I personally think it was a great investment. I thought that I would like to learn some knots that could be used not only while hiking or backpacking, but also used around the the house or in any situation if needed.  There… Full review

Speer Hammocks Hammock Camping - The Complete Guide to Greater Comfort, Convenience and Freedom

rated 5 of 5 stars Here's the book that covers the whole field of hiking with a hammock. It clearly informed me of the advantages of hammocks in general, but more important, it helped me to take the next step. Not being a "craft" guy, I ordered the Speer hammock with a extra large tarp. It works just fine! Thanks for the book you wrote and chatting with me on handling all kinds of weather. Plan on using the Peapod next week on the AT. It seems to be able to work well, and if this gear works as well as the hammock… Full review

Falcon Guides Outdoor Knots: The Knots You Need to Know

rated 4 of 5 stars Good book for those wanting to learn the basics and a little more. I really dig this book. It's a great intro book to knots. Even set up for those needing to refresh or just step up from knowing only a handful. This knowledge is great to have for any outdoorsman. Full review

Random House The Complete Walker IV

rated 3 of 5 stars Really good book.. Lots of info in it. Got this book used on Amazon. It's good, don't get me wrong, it's just a massive amount of info. I still have yet to finish it. Mostly because I can only read 2 or 3 pages at a time. There are other editions on Amazon for sale. Make sure if you check it out to get IV; III was written in the '80s or the early '90s... so the info in those are old. Full review
