Summary

Coughlan's delivers a simple plastic case to ensure your eggs make it to their destination.

Pros

  • Inexpensive
  • Easy to use
  • Durable
  • Holds eggs better than most containers not designed to hold eggs

Cons

  • Sometimes difficult to open

Bought one of these egg holders because I refuse to take anything larger than a small cooler on my car camping trips. That said, you can be sure the cooler I do take is so packed-full that putting a cardboard egg box inside it would be a risky thing to do. There are two ways to learn this lesson, and I'm glad I chose to learn it the easy way: I bought this case.

DURABILITY

When I found this egg container online, the days of worrying about crushing my eggs was over. I can place them anywhere in the cooler, packing around and atop them without worry. There are little plastic prongs inside each of the 6 egg slots to keep the eggs away from the outside walls, further protecting them from weight and impact.

I've yet to drop this on the ground with eggs inside, or give it serious abuse, but having taken a couple weekend trips now, I've found it to do exactly what it was designed to do: protect half a dozen eggs.

EASE OF USE

Only 4.5 stars instead of 5 because the plastic snap closure sometimes proves difficult to open with bare hands. If you were wearing gloves, you'd probably have to take them off to open this up.

CLEANING AND CARE

The all-plastic construction is easy to wash off once you get home, and I've found that it makes a decent storage case once you've cooked all your eggs and cleaned it out. I've yet to try and run it through the dishwasher, then again, I wash all my cookware by hand 99% of the time.

PRICE AND VALUE

Great item at a great price. If - heaven forbid - I wear out the folding hinge in the next couple decades, I suppose I could cough up another three dollars to buy another.

MY TWO CENTS

Coughlan's isn't a luxury gear maker, but everything they do make does exactly what it is supposed to. This is no exception.

This is a lot of fun!!! It holds just enough eggs to make whatever you need on a trip or a nice omelet after an overnighter.

We've put this thing through a few trips and no broken eggs! I have dropped it a time or too also. It is just a neat idea!

This 6 egg holder is the perfect size, the dozen is a little bit too big for our liking maybe for car camping, but if you want more I would recommend this with the extra 2 egg holder from Coghlan.
