Wow, a lot of light!

Pros

  • Beefed up construction over normal Coleman models

Cons

  • Special mantle is more expensive.

I received this lantern as a gift, and am happy to have it. The light from this model is superlative compared to other Coleman products, and will really brighten up your campsite.

The piezo ignition is wonderful, and I won't buy another lantern without it. Having said that, when using it the first time, it was slow to ignite, resulting in a partial blow out of the mantle. No problems with the ignition system since, so perhaps there was a breaking-in that had to occur. Try giving the ignition system a dry run without fuel the first time — it may save you a mantle.

By the way, the biggest downside is the increased expense of the outsized mantle required for this model.

Burn time was comparable to dual mantle versions, but with better light.

The cage around the globe is a great improvement, and will undoubtedly lengthen the globe life due to better survival when it is inevitably knocked over. Definitely buy the blow mold case that is optional for this model at most stores.
