Summary

You can spend a LOT more money on the super-duper titanium, coated cookware, and end up with basically the same thing: something to cook your food over a fire.

Pros

  • price
  • pots nest nicely easy to clean
  • handle various cooking methods - campfire, stove, backpaper stove, etc.

Cons

  • handles swing too freely and can get too hot.

I looked for several months for a "backpacking" cook kit before I finally decided this was the one and will use it on my next trip to the BWCA. It does nest nicely but the biggest of the pots I put in the kitchen (way too big for two people). The lids work nice for a plate, they have high sides to them so they almost act like a bowl. It come with a mesh bag for easy storage.

Amazon's prices vary from day to day but I was glad they did because I found these on the COLEMAN website for about half the price.

My only complaint is that the handles swing too freely. Not a big deal though. The handles can lock in the upright position that make it easy to pour. Just be careful because they get very hot. They nest, so the packed pots and lids are the size of the largest one.

That said, these are perfect for camping. The family cooked everything from eggs and pancakes, to chili, to fried fish — even baked bread — over fire coals. The thickness of the steel is just fine with me.

UPDATE (07/2012):  Well I like to review products after several months of use to see if my initial review still applies.  And again...I think this is a good product.  I found a cleaver way to deal with the handle issue.  I took a bread tie (with paper removed) and tie the handles together when using them.  Seems to stop the swinging issue.  I threw in a pan handle holder in my cook-set and I think I solved the "heat" issue as well.
