To be quite honest, I never really knew what the big deal was and/or is about soft shells! But, when I received this top and saw the material, the light bulb went off!! Boy was I surprised, inner material is soft and will definitely absorb moisture. Yet the outer layer has a tighter weave to resist stratches, repel rain/snow.

The style is more than I anticipated (you never know looking at a jacket online). Also, the whole jacket has 4 stretch! Columbia definitely has been able to keep up with major brands with great quality at an affordable price. Buy it on sale (40% off) at Cabelas.com!!!
