Columbia Kestrel Jacket

rated 4.0 of 5 stars

The Kestrel Jacket has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best component jackets for 2024.

These are pretty good jackets for anybody who wants a good looking everyday coat that can handle a little more. The lining, which is nylon outside and fleece inside, is able to be removed, extending the season in which you can wear this jacket. There is no filling, but it works on the concept of dressing in layers, and it is surprisingly warm.

The outer is basically a windbreaker, that is cleverly vented and fairly water resistant. It has held up 2 seasons for me so far, and it is still in pretty decent shape. There are 5 pockets on the outer half of the jacket and 3 on the inner half. The hood is no more than a windbreaker, so you will need a hat too. Fleece lined hats have worked best for me.
