Pros

  • Extremely lightweight
  • Very stiff with strong support
  • Durable
  • Spacious fit

Cons

  • No insulation
  • Not waterproof

These are my first new hiking boots in a while. I always go for something that is waterproof and really warm, but this time I was convinced to experiment with a lightweight design. So far I am glad that I made choice; though, I have yet to put them through a rigorous 60 mile trek.

The fit is pretty good. Personally, I have very narrow feet and this boot is great for them. My only complaint is the insole. For me it needs to be a little higher and the laces don't want to accommodate as much as I would like them to. Still it is a comfortable boot.

The toes and heel have plenty of room for layering socks in cold weather. Currently I am living in the mountains of Oregon I find these boots with multiple socks to be much more comfortable and just as warm as my Sorel winter boots. The traction is just as good to. Figure that if they can get trip on the ice and snow then should be fine in the wilderness.

These boots aren't waterproof so you are going to get wet feet. Having said that my feet staid dry even when getting the boot immersed in mud. The good thing about no waterproofing is that they dry quickly. Also, if your feet get hot they are a well ventilated boot do to the lack of water resistance.

The best thing about the boots are their weight. When I am wearing them I barely realize that they are on. My sneakers and dress loafers are even heavier than these boots. The leather construction makes them durable to boot! I have heard some people complain that they are too stiff, but its a hiking boot. If you are going to be in rough or hilly terrain the stiffness is great.

Assuming that you are looking for a boot that is adaptable to various conditions, this is perfect. Lightweight and cool but roomy enough for layers in cold weather. Your feet will likely get wet if you have stream crossing, but they dry quickly as hiking boots go. Don't push to extremes, but a perfect all around backpacking boot.

Easily the best boot I have ever bought, especially when you consider the price.
