I first used the pack on the Continental Divide Trail in Colorado. First of all I'm impressed with the construction and adjustability of the pack, although it did take a while to get the adjustment right. The golden fiberglass rods on the sides of the pack look great and also have an infinite range of adjustment for transferring weight from the shoulder to the hips or vice versa. This adjustment common to all the other Dana internal frame packs, worked best on the Shortbed.
I like the number of compartments available on the pack, it really helped to keep gear organized.
Once the pack was adjusted, it just rode like a dream. I had Keltys and I feel that they don't compare to the comfort and load bearing capabilities of the Shortbed. The only pack that came close is the North Face Backmagic external frame pack that is discontinued.
The only downside of the pack and this may be a little picky is the squeeks and groans the pack makes while hiking.
