XLE Elite Canister

rated 3.5 of 5 stars Never used another filter. Been using several for 30 years. It's only good for about 100 gallons and is difficult to pump when nearing the end of its life expectancy. I don't think I've ever cleaned mine, but I've only filtered clear water from Rocky Mountain and Appalachian streams. Have never gotten sick from drinking water it filtered. Can pump a quart in several minutes. The hoses it comes with are short. I used a piece of surgical tubing in place of one hose.     Full review

Deluxe Water Purifier XL

rated 5 of 5 stars Quick and easy to use, back flush, and clean. Very high quality. A bit heavy compared to other filters, but the peace of mind it gives is worth the extra few ounces. This purifier gives me the peace of mind knowing my water source will not make me sick. It is effective against bacteria, cysts, and viruses plus it removes giardia and cryptosporidia while using no chemicals to treat the water. The purifier removes chemical contaminants and pollutants such as pesticides. It provides you with… Full review

Deluxe Water Purifier XL

rated 5 of 5 stars We have had this pump for 3 years now. Although it is a little bulky and could be a bit more ergonomically designed, it has been a lifesaver for us. This little purifier gives me peace of mind when we are camping. It is a relatively quick and efficient way to provide safe clean water for drinking. The pumping mechanism is not as ergonomic as I'd like, but it is a small price to pay for health. We use a lightweight collapsible bucket which fits inside the stuff sack with the pump to fetch water from… Full review

Deluxe Water Purifier

rated 5 of 5 stars Durable, long lasting and quick pump. Each cartridge lasts for 150 gallons of pumping...which is a lot. I've never had it jam up, I've never had to backwash it, it's never broken. A real quality pump.   The only problem is its size. If you are a lightweight packer, this isn't for you. You probably won't find a lighter pump of this quality, but when you are pushing for the lightest weight possible, nothing you have will be perfect.   I would recommend this to anyone who isn't too concerned about… Full review

Deluxe Water Purifier

rated 5 of 5 stars I hunt in out of my pack for a week at a time. Weight is important so I spend a lot of money trading older gear for newer lighter gear. I'm so confident in the First Need that it is the only thing in my pack that is not an opportunity for improvement. My First Need purifier is the first thing that goes in my pack. I've had my first need for about 5 years now. I bought an extra filter a couple years ago thinking that sooner or later the original would need replacement, it hasn't had an issue yet. Full review
