Spyderco Manix 2

rated 5 of 5 stars Great folding alternative for a camping / hiking knife. High quality steel, a handle that is comfortable in size, and easy to grip, dry or wet, but not too much grip. Sharpens easily, and holds an edge very well. if you have man hands standard or a bit bigger, you will find the grip on this knife just about perfect in most of the ways that you can hold the knife. The size in the pocket is just about right, between an Every Day Carry (EDC) size, and a size that is just able to baton (break into smaller… Full review

Opinel No. 8 Folding Knife

rated 5 of 5 stars It's also an historical knife and the type dates back to at least the Civil War. I've used mine for Civil War and 1916 Punitive Expedition living history. It's a good knife to have and I also carry one in my ground-pounder search and rescue pack. Full review

Opinel No. 8 Folding Knife

rated 5 of 5 stars All around a great knife, simple and nice to look at. The knife is easy to open—not as easy as some, it does require two hands. Its simple design is what makes this knife so appealing and nice to look at, it has a very pretty real wooden handle and is simple to unlock and lock with a collar that turns to lock the blade open or closed.  These famous peasant knives from France have a single high-carbon steel blade that folds into a hardwood handle (Beechwood I think). Being a high carbon blade… Full review

Spyderco Vallotton Sub-Hilt Folder

rated 5 of 5 stars Simply put, beautiful. This knife is well elegant! They used the finest materials and the fit and finish are what you would expect in a custom. It's almost hard to use this knife because of its beauty. I had the pleasure of owning this knife for awhile before I hit financial problems and I will buy it again! If you're on the fence about this one, just buy it. It really is worth every penny and you can always put it up for sale on the secondary market and it will be snatched up. Just keep the box… Full review

Petzl Spatha

rated 4.5 of 5 stars A great little knife, that will take a bite out of your salami, but not out of your pocketbook. A few years back, I was looking for a decent lightweight knife for my hiking ditty bag. But the top rated knives were really expensive, some in excess of a hundred bucks! Though I like quality, I'm also frugal (or cheap, depending on how you want to look at it). When this knife came out, it got great reviews, so I picked one up. When this knife was first released, it came in two models: a longer straight-edged… Full review

Gerber Mini Covert FAST

rated 5 of 5 stars As a modern version of the fixed blade Fairburn knife of WW II, it is an excellent tactical knife. It may not be viewed well in NJ and other "non-stiletto" states, however. As a folder, it is well made and often used by the military. This is not a toy. This is a tactical combat knife with a real backstory. Those who remember WW II and the fixed blade version of the tiny stiletto designed for the military recognize this as its modern cousin. It is a durable blade. Most users strop their blades, but… Full review

Spyderco K2 Folder

rated 5 of 5 stars This is a big folder! But light and ready to do what you ask of it. As you can see it's big. I've got a nice patina on my blade from so much use. If you got the money and want a big folder this is it!! Full review

Spyderco Ulize

rated 5 of 5 stars This is probably not the best hiking knife. It was designed by I believe a German police officer. Its big blade is meant for slicing. I do own one and it could preform in the woods, but there are better choices. As you can see, it's not a wide blade. In fact the knife itself closed isn't wide, which is nice because it allows for more pocket space. As I said it could be used as a hiking/backpacking knife, but there are better choices. On the plus side, if you do buy this knife, money goes to injured… Full review

Spyderco Manix 2 XL

rated 5 of 5 stars This is a great knife for hiking, camping, etc. It has a nice solid feel. Lock up is great on this knife too. I had the EDC forum version of this knife, which was cool because the handles glowed in the dark and it was the XL version. This is a nice beefy knife. It can baton if you need it to. It glides open and locks solid. They also make a lighter version, but it doesn't feel as beefy as a standard version. You can count on this knife when the chips are down. Full review
