I have been using a Gabel Photo pole since 2002. I mount my GPSr on the pole and use the pole as a camera mount too.

Pros: The poles have a number of features I like.

  1. The adjustment threads are quicker than most brands and hold quite well.
  2. The finish on the aluminum is very durable, it has held up great.
  3. A big plus is the removable ball on the camera 1/4-20 camera mount does not have the wrist strap mounted in it. The wrist strap stays on the pole even if you remove the knob.
  4. The carbide tips have held up great over the years.

I bought my first Gabel pole back in 2002 and liked it so much I tried to buy a second one. But the USA distribution for Gabel Trekking poles had collapsed and you could not find one anywhere. Finally about 2008 I found that they were available again in the USA.  I ordered two.

Cons: Lack of different basket styles, sizes and the limited buying outlets for Gabel products.
