User Review: GizzMoVest EVA Case
Source: bought it new
Price Paid: $25
An inexpensive option for expensive electronics, the GizzMoVest is a lightweight durable enclosure designed to protect your GPS from the perils of outdoor recreation and rough handling. It's design is simple, rugged, and made in the USA!
- Texturized surface
- Rapid installation and removal
- Excellent protection for electronic devices
- Excellent warranty
- Some models rely on a plastic cord-lock to keep GPS secure.
- Some models lack built-in belt clips.
The GizzMoVest is a lightweight, semi-rigid, clam shell style rubberized enclosure that completely encompasses the body of many Garmin (and other) GPS devices, adding an excellent layer of protection from accidental drops and bumps against rock, tree, or trail.
The case is textured, making it easy to grip when wet or wearing gloves, and is snug but easily removed, allowing rapid battery replacement or access to device ports. The GizzMoVest also features a high ridge around the vulnerable touch screen, creating an addition 1/4" of recess which equates to moderate/good protection for the screen while still allowing full functionality. The case, made in the USA, is covered by a 3 year absolutely unconditional warranty.
For those who prefer to attach their GPS to their belt or pack using the device's oem belt clip or carabiners, this case may not be for you. For at least some Garmin GPS devices, the belt clips and wrist straps need to be removed before inserting into the GizzMoVest. Once inserted, the primary method of attachment is from a plastic snap clip on the end of the case closure cord/wrist strap which is roughly 12 inched in length.
There is no belt clip or other form of attachment supplied or available with these particular models, meaning it will either hang from the snap clip or be required to be placed in a pocket. GizzMoVest has incorporated belt clips and other mounting hardware into many of their other cases, so depending upon your model of GPS, this may not be an issue.
Another drawback for many cases is the dependence on the case closure cord/wrist strap for keeping the GPS secure in hand or on a pack. Although highly unlikely, if the case closure cord-lock was to loosen, the GPS could become dislodged, leaving the owner with an empty GizzMoVest attached to their pack or belt.
It should also be noted that these cases, like all cases, add bulk to the GPS. This however is a minor compromise compared to the level of protection.
I purchased one of these cases for a Garmin Dakota 20. Its quality build and level of protection, while allowing access to the touch screen, looks and feels superior. I expect to get at least three years out of it, and were it to fail before then, I will simply return it for another. With a little imagination and creativity, I have also overcome the issues with the lack of belt clip.
Overall, this product is a good design that provides superior protection for your GPS with few compromises.
