We have both the un-insulated and insulated version, and find the insulated version a bit nicer...it seems more durable and easier to grasp when wet. The dogs don't care. They just like getting water on the trail. We like the "no waste" aspect..water they do not drink goes right back into the bottle.

Pros

  • Color choice

  • No wasted water

We first purchased the uninsulated H204K9 25 oz. bottle, and really liked how it worked. Instead of using a collapsible bowl, this type bottle has no waste; the cap is a "bowl"/lid, that the dogs easily can drink from. Once the dog is done drinking, the extra water gets poured back into the bottle.

We then purchased the insulated bottle, which has a nice silicone coating; this makes it easy to grasp, and it does not get dinged up, as the uninsulated one can do when it is in the outside pocket of a pack, as we wander though the wooded trails. We also found that the insulated bottle does not freeze as easily in the winter.

The bottle has a nice s-clip, so we attach it to our pack, with a short section of line. We did find that if the excess water is not all put back in the bottle, some residual water may drip down the side of the bottle.

We have used these bottles for over two years, for hiking, skijoring, snowshoeing, canoeing, and agility practice. The stainless steel bottle has proven rugged, and is an essential part of our dog outings.
