User Review: Herman Men's Survivor (Big Buck)
Materials: leather and gortex
Use: hunting and minimal hiking
Break-in Period: never made it
Price Paid: 30?
I got a pair of these Herman Survivor based on having heard really good things about them. I did some research AFTER I had problems with them. I had worn them only 2 times. However, I bought them at the end of last hunting season when they were discounted @ WalMart.
I really liked they way they looked and seemed to be made very well. I put them up for the season and got them out this year. I wore them to a soccer game in January (to keep warmer toes). They worked pretty well at that. I went to take them off and noted that the heel on both boots was held with some sort of foam type rubber that had completely separated from the sole to the leather upper of the boot.
Now, I have only worn them twice. I took them back to WalMart fully expecting them to stand behind their product and was surprised by their terse response. That was I needed to return them in unworn condition and with receipt within 90 days. I protested and spoke with a manager who also rebuffed me.
I must say I was surprised at their response. I usually have had good luck with returns @ WalMart but absolutely NO satisfaction on these boots. They really look good but are falling apart. I was surprised by both the complete failure of the boot and the poor response by WalMart. I would recommend NOT buying Herman Survivor boots from WalMart.
There must be someone somewhere who sells boots that stands behind them where you live that will be more responsive to issues like this if they arise. In my area (Texas) there are Academy stores and they have been excellent on issues of returns. Thanks if you read all of this. Charles
