Overall, these shoes perform as expected. They fit my foot comfortably and snugly. The tongue is half-gusseted. The outersoles give good traction on slippery surfaces. The waterproof lining is a nice feature, and overall quality is above average for shoes in this price range. One shortcoming is that the seams are for the most part only single-stitched.

The lacing system of these shoes deserves special comment. There are inner and outer sets of lacing eyelets. Because the two sets are quite different, adjusting the tension between the two can be troublesome. The outerset of eyelets (the black clips seen in the photograph) are attached to the shoes somewhat in the manner of clothes-pins. One will have to unlace the shoes to clearly see implications of this. It appears to me that these outer eyelets will be prone to snagging on things or perhaps even breaking off.

How well these shoes will hold up in the long run remains to be seen. In the past I have been reasonably happy with the Hi-Tec brand. All things considered, there is pretty good bang for the buck in these shoes.
