Hillary Sequoia

rated 1.5 of 5 stars

We bought this tent from Sears about two years ago. Every camping trip it has rained. And every camping trip we had woken up in puddles! I have tried every type of sealer sold, even returned the tent thinking I got a faulty one. It still leaks!

The box shows a different rain fly than actually comes with it. You get a much shorter one than shown which doesn't cover very much. I don't even think the longer one would help they way it is designed.

Our pillows have been wet, bottoms of the sleeping bags. I am talking puddles in the corners not just dew! Were lucky our kids didn't get pnemonia!

Were not the only ones. We have seen the same tent at campgrounds and we see the same thing..... a huge tarp covering the tent because theirs leaks too!

If you buy one of these, make sure you buy a huge tarp to go over it!

Design: 3 room Dome
Ease of Setup: Easy but takes 2 people

Never Never buy a Hillary tent. We bought this tent thinking that is was so nice... The first time we went camping in it we had a small shower of rain and everything in the tent got wet. It leaked from the top and all around the seams, not a small leak, a leak where you can actually see the water running in the floor of the tent. Hillary needs to do something to correct this problem, we are not the first ones to complain of this problem. I went and read reviews on this tent and everyone that has one or has had one complained of the same problem.

Design: four season family dome
Sleeps: 6+
Ease of Setup: very easy set up
Weight: 20
Price Paid: $180

We were camping this weekend with our Hillary Sequoia tent. We have decided that tent can only be used when there is absolutely NO chance of rain! I don't think I want to even risk a heavy morning dew. They should put a warning on the box. WARNING: In case of rain go ahead and throw your sleeping bag outside on the ground. We have learned a lot from this tent about what we want in our next tent. Number one on that list is Never buy a Hillary tent again! P.S. Even the rain fly leaked!

I bought my Hillary Sequoia on ebay and have used it many times. I bought a large roll of heavy plastic to put over the top so I don't have to worry about getting wet. I also cut a ground cloth to fit under it. It has been a great tent and I also have a Hillary Everest and have had a Hillary Durango all great tents.

Design: 3 room dome
Sleeps: 6+
Ease of Setup: very easy if you have at least 2 people
Weight: maybe 10 lbs including poles
Price Paid: $65

If you are looking for a summer (no rain expected) tent this tent might be okay. If you're looking for a tent over the long haul, I suggest you spend some extra money and get a quality product. The tent is pleasant to look at but should not be used for serious camping.
