User Review: Integral Designs eVent Shortie Gaiters
Price Paid: $27
I could not be happier with these inexpensive yet highly effective gaiters. I purchased these to keep splash/mud/debris out of the tops of my boots, and for walking in light snow. Anyone who has had to stop, remove their boots, and shake little stones and debris out, or who has had mud splash over the collar of their boots, knows how annoying that is. No more.
They are the ultimate in simplicity — one circular piece, no zippers or Velcro to open them up. they have a thin elastic cord that runs under your arch, a hook to grab your boot laces, and an elastic shock cord around the top that tightens with a cord lock. The inside of each arch has some extra fabric because it's a high-abrasion area.
They are extremely lightweight and breathe well due to the eVent membrane — a very big advantage over the gaiters i have used previously. Despite a number of hikes in them, they are unmarked, and I expect them to be durable.
Because this is a one-piece gaiter, you have to put it on your leg or your boot before you put your boot on, not so much an inconvenience as a minor modification of normal habits. The other gaiters I use all have a strip of Velcro that allows opening and closing. Other gaiters I have used tend to accumulate moisture on the inside; not these.
The light weight, simplicity, and ability to breathe are the primary advantages for me. Also, I like the fact they are lower than most gaiters because it makes them easier to wear in the summer.
