JanSport, made a great pack. It withstood snow and rain, without any equipment getting wet. Its 2 pockets on the top lid, provided area for easy to get equipment(rain gear & first aid). This pack is extreamly comfortable, for all day hikes (gain and loss). I even put on my rain gear without taking it off. The true reason I liked the Andes is that it has so much room, and it wears it well. Not only that but it's not expensive either. One more thing, is I have used the same Jansport backpack (Daypack) for school for the past four years of college, and one knows those books can get up to 50lbs easy, and not even a thread has come out.
