These boots are great! Did not have the need for the full Makalu. THe M-Hike is the same upper with a hiking rather than a mountaineering sole. Wore these boot for a full day out of the box with no discomfort. Great support as I hike carrying my 38lb. 2 1/2 year old son. Especially like the lace lock at the ankle. this way you can loosen either the lower boot and tighten the upper or vice versa to get the boot fitting exactly the way you need. Bought the boot directly from La Sportiva and they were very helpful
