Rating: ![]()
Design: Internal frame/Tehcnical

Number of Pockets: 6/7 (divided main)
Max. Load Carried: ~40 lbs

Price Paid: $200 U.S. (closeout)
Very nearly bulletproof (at least the Kevlar bottom is). The divided main compartment is handy, as is the double drawcord top closure. Captive-end straps are a nice touch. The single aluminum stay is a U-shaped tube, similar in shape to an external frame except smaller and more ergonomically conformed. The unusual flex of the frame takes some getting used to, but it does keep the load centered and shaped to your back. There is a shock-cord tiedown on the top pocket (which is huge) as well as side-compression strap/buckles and a central daisy-chain. There are two small fastening--things on the front, to either side of the daisy-chain, that are helpful in securing things like trekking poles or the all-important (you know) trowel. The suspension system is amazing, incorporating plastic inserts in the hip belt to stabilize the load in rough terrain. I found I used the integrated wrist-loops quite often. This is a very nice pack for the money (around $360 regular price), And I would recommend it to anyone looking for an indestructible weekend or technical pack.
