Vargo Bedrock 1/4 Zip

rated 4 of 5 stars A midweight, quarter zip long-sleeve shirt, the Bedrock is a durable option for any cooler time of the year. It’s a tight fit for slimmer bodies, but is fleece lined and breathes well due to side stretch panels and ability to unzip collar. The fleece holds sweat, but the TiFusion (titanium infused) fabric wicks and fights odor really well. I’d recommend for any non-summer (at least non-humid) season for any activity where durability and constant use is a factor. There are a lot of similarities… Full review

Voormi Access Pullover

rated 0.5 of 5 stars The Access Pullover is a sharp-looking merino wool mid-layer that is perfect for being active on cooler days. Unfortunately, after testing two of these pullovers, this tester has found the quality to be substandard, developing holes in the seams after only a few washes. This con strongly negates any recommendation to spend $200 on this garment. Let me start by saying, I wanted to love this shirt. It arrived on a hot July day, and I immediately began wishing for cold weather to wear it in. So I stowed… Full review

Ripperkon-Wolf Bolero

rated 5 of 5 stars This is the new generation of tactical shirts. With the big biceps pockets very good for outdoor and tactical stuff. The biggest feature is that you only need one bolero and you can use it with any clothing. Watch my review and see this fantastic idea. Have fun. Watch my review here: Full review

Asics FujiTrail Hoodie

rated 5 of 5 stars Great mid layer for high aerobic activities. Great coverage and comfort, for the times that a fleece is too much, but a base layer alone is too little. The Asics Fuji Trail Hoodie, or Asics Fuji Hoody as they seem to call it in Europe, is a great mid layer. I often run hot and find no need for many of the otherwise very nice grid layers on the market, until it is around -10˚C.  This hoody seems to fall between a thick base layer and a thin fleece. So perfect for running or otherwise high aerobic… Full review

Stoic Merino Comp Shirt - Long Sleeve

rated 4 of 5 stars The Stoic Merino Comp Shirt is a comfortable shirt that wicks moisture extremely well. It keeps you warm or cool as needed. The fabric has the right amount of stretch, and it's machine washable. This has been my go-to shirt for snowshoeing over the past three winters. With a silkweight base layer underneath it and a wind and rain shell on top I'm comfortable snowshoeing in temps around -10°F because my sweat isn't making me cold. Wearing just this shirt while out hiking around a cedar swamp with… Full review

ExOfficio Men's Sol Cool Crew Long Sleeve Shirt

rated 3 of 5 stars I'm generally a huge fan of ExOfficio clothing, but maybe not this time. Perhaps I'm expecting too much, a shirt that can actually keep me cooler in East Texas summer heat, but that is what the mfg description claims. But under most summer conditions here, it ain't happenin'. Imagine my excitement when I read about this magic shirt that claims to not only protect the wearer from the sun's rays, but can actually keep you cooler in summer heat than std summer wear.   I spend a fair amount of time… Full review

Outdoor Research Echo L/S Zip Tee

rated 4 of 5 stars Thinnest, lightest, most breathable long sleeve shirt. Deep zip adds a lot to usability. Bit fragile. Thin Grid: I live in Japan, where the humidity adds a lot of warmth in the summers, and cold in the winters. Trekking in the summers can be grueling — and I'm always on the lookout for very thin shirts that breathe well.  Two of my favourite shirts are the Montura Run Zip Maglia l/s, a strong runner shirt with more spandex (less quick drying), and OR's Echo Zip l/s.  The OR Echo Zip shirt… Full review

Terramar Men's Helix Half-Zip Shirt

rated 3.5 of 5 stars Works well when worn in conjunction with other layers. This is a base layer and when combined with short sleeved shirt underneath and rain shell or down on top, you'll be prepared for most situation This is a base layer, but should not be confused with layers such as Under Armour necessarily. This is not skin tight, but does hug the body more than other layers may.  When I wear this with a shirt (perhaps on cooler mornings) or with a shirt and jacket (those 40 degree days), it works well. I am… Full review

Ibex Men's Hooded Indie

rated 4 of 5 stars A lightweight layering piece with a versatile and expansive temperature range...easily one of my favorite pieces of clothing...and a reliable companion on my many adventures. Ibex Hooded Indie In my closet things are basically settled and calm in the base-layer and shell regions...in these areas of my closet everyone knows their place...Pax Romana...and I hardly give a second thought to what piece is going with me when the time comes to pack and go. The mid-layer region however is much less settled...it… Full review
