I wouldn't buy this boot. LOWA says about the Cristallo: "Cristallo, Cervinia, Zodiac or Eiger are not a 'Norwegian welt.' Stitching on the outside of boots is considered obsolete as it tends to wear out, as well as leak water." (http://www.lowaboots.com/faq/Answer.cfm?Qkey=21&QThemeID=20)

LOWA lies. Norwegian welt construction doesn't "wear out." EVER. Which is why a Norwegian welt boot can be resoled indefinitely. Norwegian welt construction is superior and the only reason boot manufacturers don't use it anymore is because it requires too much craftmanship -- it's cheaper to make boots with glued construction. And anyone with any sense seam seals around the welt for complete waterproofness. So not only is a norwegian welt indestructible, it's also waterproofable :)

If you're considering buying LOWA boots keep in mind no one at LOWA (especially general manager Peter Sachs) knows much about boots. A well cared for norwegian welt boot lasts for decades; the leather uppers will rot before the welt wears out. So, what moron at LOWA thought this B.S. up? If they did ever actually get out into the backcountry, they'd be shocked at how many hikers and climbers there are who still wear and prefer norwegian welt boots. I just bought a pair of Vasque Montanas and am considering Merrell Wilderness to replace my Asolo Yukons, which I've worn for over 20 years. Why? I prefer quality and craftmanship. But LOWA, like every other outdoor gear maker these days, makes things as cheap as they can.
