Lowe Alpine Radonne

rated 4.0 of 5 stars

The Radonne has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best overnight packs for 2024.

This is a great ski, mountain day pack. I wish all packs carried so well. I can't explain it, but all the weight drops to the hips and the shoulder straps just seem to be there for control. Subsiquently, I feel very free in it. It's not big, and has no adjustment, so it has to fit. There is a hydration pocket, a belt pocket for your car keys, two side pockets for poles, bear spray, bug dope, water or what have you as well as a large back flap that can be used to carry a snow board, rope, snowshoes, wet jacket, crampons etc. A pretty handy feature. Side compression straps double as ski carriers, and there's two loops at the bottom for that purpose. Fabric is cotton like nylon, not for rain. There's no ice axe loop, but the back flap with its elastics work fine.

Lowe Alpine calls it a hut to hut pack, but you better have one compressible sleeping bag if you want room for underwear. However, I keep fimding ways to use this pack and will only turn to my big North Face if I absolutely have to.
