This is a sort of odd-ball travel pack, but a good one. It can be used as a duffel or an internal frame pack for travel. A zip-out panel covers the pack suspension for travel. It's very well made, as all Maddens were. The full-on pack suspension is what sets this apart from most travel packs. It carries weight very well, and I would not hesitate to head out into the woods with it.

On the down-side, the elaborate suspension and frame-sheet makes it heavier and bulkier than most travel packs. The packbag is most akin to a duffel, with a long central zip. There are four very slim exterior pockets that can accommodate odd items like paperbacks and socks. There are a lot of webbing daisy chains on the exterior, which are not strictly necessary, but certainly make it look mountain-ready.

One side-note: the odd appearance of this bag attracts attention from baggage security screeners. I used to sometimes find those little notes from TSA saying they had searched my bag. But since I've been using this, I get the note every single time. Either TSA is getting more efficient, or this looks like a suitcase nuke.
