I have used this bag in temps ranging from 5 degrees F to 50 degrees F (more as a blanket at that point).

Let me first say that the bag is warm and quite comfortable and if there were no design flaws or customer service issues I would highly recommend the bag.

At the very lowest temperatures I have used the bag in, it has kept me warm other than a very annoying problem with the draft tube designed to insulate against cold air coming through the zipper. This design gets an F from me because every time you move, air will come through. There is no mechanism for it to stay put, such as small tabs of velcro or a windproof flap on the outside.

Although the fabric that the bag is made of does retain down, the seams DO NOT! Initially, the amount of down lost was minute...maybe 5-10 feathers per trip, but after about two years of use and maybe 15 nights in the bag it has been losing more like 25 feathers or so through all of the seams and stitching.

Final complaint - the draft collar that you cinch around your neck has become unstitched from the rest of the bag and there is now a two inch space where down flies out of. One night with this hole and it almost looked like snow inside my tent. When I spoke to the Marmot rep about their willingness to resolve the problem, the response was to pay for shipping to them, they would sew it up and send it back.

Not sure how others may feel about this but first, why did this problem happen on a $400 bag and second, why would Marmot not be willing and quite honestly anxious to take care of the problem quickly and quietly? Very disappointed in the customer service received.

I have a love/hate relationship with this bag. I LOVE its construction, its advanced and very high quality materials, its generous cut (I'm 6'5" and weigh about 275 and this thing is cavernous even for me) and its warmth and coziness. Though I haven't tried it in true winter conditions yet, its has kept me toasty warm at 40 deg. F. Anything above about 45 and you have to open it or it'll be too warm. I HATE getting outta this bag in the morning since its so damn comfortable and cozy! The Gossamer fabric is so pleasant to the touch that you just wanna lie there and enjoy the comfort like you would in awarm bed on a nice winter's day!

All in all, the finest sleeping bag I have ever owned in terms of design, contruction, materials and performance. It also compresses fantastically small and is easy to pack into the bag compartment of my Astralplane. It BLOWS AWAY the TNF down and synthetic bags that I have bought in the past (though my dog loves her Blue Kazoo!) and its Marmot for me from now on. BUY ONE NOW!

I avoided down for years. I used heavy and bulky synthetic fill bags. I accepted their shortcomings as normal. I kept reading about how great down was and since my 10 and 20 year old synthetic bags were getting thin I decided to try down. I did a lot of reading and decided on Marmot. I got the Arryo first and loved it so much as a summer bag I got the Couloir for a winter bag. Wow what a difference!

I have camped in blizzards in Colorado and Wyoming and slept hot. This is a warm bag.

I was in camping in a blizzard where I was roaming around camp and getting cold fast. Between the wind and snow it was cold. Temps dropped into the teens. I wore a lighwteight MTS crew neck to bed and crawled into the Couloir. 5 minutes later I had to lose the shirt as I was hot. Slept warm. Really warm. Down warm.

A good compromise of lightweight, stuffable, and cost.

I also liked how Marmot fills down bags here in the US of A!

Excellent bag if you want comfort and durability.

Pros

  • Warm
  • Two-way zip
  • Durable

I have had this bag for years. It is incredibly comfortable.

Marmot stands behind its gear. I had a house fire and part of the bag was burnt/singed/melted. They were able to repair it like new for me.

I have a left hand zip and my husband has a right hand zip. His is several years newer than mine but they mate perfectly.

The bag packs and compresses well and washes up nicely after a long trip.

Excellent cold weather bag. Great loft for very little weight. The shell material is very light weight, so if you intend to use the bag in wet conditions I suggest looking into the Dryloft version. If you like to stay dry (i.e. not climb in the cascades) then you can't go wrong with this bag.

A nice bag, I have tested on summit of mt Lac des cygnes, 3200 fts and -15 c with wind at 60 kmh

The dry loft is really a must on mountaineering bag.

Great Marmot

I've used the bag a few times but never below 40F. It's comfortable and has kept me warm. However, because I am a cold sleeper I will probably never use it for winter camping. I have a mountain hardware ramses w/ stormlight that seems warmer.

On the down side, expect for this bag to lose down. The bag constantly loses down through the bag's inner and outer shell. It's probably not enough to affect the warmth of the bag, but it sure is annoying.

Awesome bag. The temperature rating is conservative. This bag will work well in summer and extreme winters. The quality is immpecable. The best bag I've come accross.
