I've worn through three different models of gaiters, and the MEC Elahos were the least expensive and the toughest. I recommend them for treeplanting or bush work where you want something that is good and tough without being to heavy or hot.

However, for activities like hiking and snowshoeing these gaiters lack the fit and finesse of a gaiter like the OR Crocs. The Elahos are a little bulkier and boxier feeling, and the elastic strap at the top (that tightens at the top of the calf) isn't nearly as well designed as the one on the ORs. The Elahos band kind of cuts into your leg like a narrow cord if pulled tight.

Also, the plastic apparatus on the strap catches on sticks and things, holding you up or painfully snapping back against your legs as you move through knarly brush.

The Elaho 2 has adapted with some useful features, but still contains the same strap system at the top.

Great price though.
