User Review: Merrell Chameleon Evo Gore-Tex XCR
Use: Short or long dayhikes w/ light backpack.
Break-in Period: They felt awesome the very day I put them on. Perfect
Weight: ~ 2 lbs
Price Paid: $110-120
Absolutely an awesome model, even though I have nothing to compare it to since these are my first pair of Merrels. I love these shoes for its grip and versatile use on the trail.
This model is not for those who don't have strong ankles however, and probably should look into getting a model with mid-ankle support. But for those looking to get through a short day hike and get to your favorite spots quickly, these are the way to go.
To put things into perspective, my experience with these made a day hike through Mt. Washington a breeze. Make sure you pack appropriately and that you are not carrying too much weight with these shoes on longer treks. Just take what you'll need.
Otherwise backpacking boots or mid-ankle support are the way to go if you're one to go the distance.
