I have had these boots for 2 years now, do a lot of outdoor walking in rough terrain. They are durable, light, excellent. Not for a beginner climber or even a hiker. Need to get use to the no flex ankle at first. Overall a great boot with awesome waterproofing..

Here's what other sites are saying:

Built to reach the summit in a range of mountaineering crampon designs, Merrell's waterproof and rugged Expedition boot is essential foot support and protection for those who spend weeks in the remote backcountry. Beneath the quality 3-mm. Perwanger Nepal leather upper is a breathable and wicking Microguard mesh liner with Outlast for superior moisture dispersal. Merrell's Easy Rollers II stainless steel ball bearing lacing system locks in a secure fit the way you like and a durable and aggressive Vibram Expedition sole with deep 8-mm. lugs inspires confidence in high spaces where you need it most. Despite being a mountaineering boot, the Expedition features Merrell's traditional hiking boot last, so it fits best with midweight socks or your favorite combination of midweight socks and wicking liners.

Merrell made the Men's Expedition Mountaineering Boots with a close-fitting waterproof leather upper, so you get weather-blocking performance without a lot of bulk. These stiff boots' Vibram Expedition sole has deep lugs for grippy traction on snow, and high-traction rubber at the toe adds leverage on dicey terrain. A mesh and Outlast layer manages moisture as you heat up on the route, and the Expedition Mountaineering Boots' stainless steel double-hook lacing system provides a tight, secure fit. The shock-absorbing footbed on these crampon-compatible Expedition Boots helps reduce fatigue on hardcore climbs.

Merrell®'s flagship mountain-mastering boots take high-performance and comfort to the limit. Ideal for technically demanding ascents. Rugged, waterproof 3mm Perwanger split-grain leather uppers in a one-piece construction for lasting protection and performance. Double tongue design with high scree coverage allows optimal fit across a variety of instep volumes; thick padding relieves lace pressure. Easy Rollers II stainless steel ball bearing lacing system allows maximum pulling power and reduces lace abrasion and wear. In-Line stainless steel double hooks secure lacing along upper cuffs for superb support. Injection-molded thermoplastic urethane stabilizer at heels and full rubber randing offer extra support and protection from bumps and abrasion. Micro Guard nylon lining is backed with Outlast™ for moisture-wicking temperature regulation, releasing stored heat as interior temperatures cool. Removable, dual-density EVA footbeds with wicking topsheets add cushioning and support. Rigid yet lightweight Grade 10 carbon fiber midsole supports with 4mm Poron® performance material for flexion. Midsole supports deliver reliable stability on rugged terrain yet allow enough motion for walking with hinged crampons comfortably. Lightweight EVA midsoles provide all-day cushioning and shock absorption; extra cushioning under heels for comfort. Durable, high-performance Vibram® Expedition™ rubber outsoles with deep 8mm lugs use both Mont and Trek rubbers for traction on all surfaces. Toe area with high-traction rubber edges easily; molded welt areas fit most styles of crampons: rigid, hybrid or strap-on.
