Merrell Liberty Ridge

rated 4.5 of 5 stars

The Liberty Ridge has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best backpacking boots for 2024.

I just recieved the boot in the mail, and I am starting the break-in. Right out of the box, though, these boots fit even my wierd feet perfectly. The solidity of the 3.2 mm reversed leather inspires nothing but confidence, as do the Vibram(R) Clusaz dual-density outsoles. The soles have very little flex, due to the full steel shank and 10 mm plastic midsole, but they do flex when and where needed. Lace-up is a little stiff, and I suspect I'll need to replace the laces before break-in is through, but that's no problem. I'll write another review after I decide they're broken in. So far, so good.

I've been waiting and searching for this boot for ever. It is an amazing boot.

When Sierra Trading Post had some close-outs on them, I jumped on the opportunity. regularly priced at about $250.00, they had them for $149.00.

They still have a few pairs left (10/99).

This boot required zero break in, it is fully padded and goretex lined. several other bells and whistles that you can read about on other posts.

Unfortunaltely, it appears as though merrell has stopped producing the boot since their website (www.merrellboot.com) has no info on them.

oh well, I gots mine!

Absolutly amazing, the best boot on the market. my friend and I each own a pair and have put them through HELL and high water. With the full steel shank and the 10mm synthetic midsole... the double full gusseted toungue and 3.2mm leather, I couldn't ask more. And I work at a backpacking specialty shop, so I could ask more if I wanted!
