These boots have not seen much use yet, but on the couple of trips out they have been used on, they preformed without flaw.

Comfortable right out of the box. My first true pair of hiking boots. They saw snow ranging from 1 inch to as much as a foot of snow in their first use. I would recommend Merrell products to just about anyone.

My feet stayed dry and toasty even though they spent the majority of their use so far covered in snow.

Developed blisters on both feet the first time out, on a four-mile hike on flat terrain. A ridge encompasses the heel portion and creates friction when wet from sweat.

Innovatively designed with a lower-slung profile than most conventional hiking boots, the Merrell Switchback boot gives you superb support wrapped up in a one-piece waterproof leather upper. It's an exceptional boot for summertime day hikes and all but the wettest backpacking trips. Merrell Switchback boots are nearly two pounds lighter than Merrell's mountaineering footwear, but this design doesn't cut out the incredible support of the In-Board compression molded EVA footframe. One of the best features for long hauls is Merrell's Air Cushion midsole, a soft and resilient pocket of air that returns a portion of the energy you use in every stride. A molded backstay along your Achilles helps support foot placement while rubber toe bumpers repel unseen obstructions that rise up to meet you. The Switchback boot features Merrell's traditional hiking boot last, so it fits best with midweight socks or your favorite combination of midweight socks and wicking liners. If you're looking for a similar design with waterproof and breathable protection for weathering protracted storms, consider Merrell's Switchback Gore-Tex hiking boot.

Planning to haul moderately heavy loads (20-35 lb.) through rock country? Look to the supportive, midweight Switchback. Upper made of waterproof-treated leather for solid ankle support. Polyester mesh lining wicks away moisture. Injection-molded TPU heel; nylon side supports provide torsional stability. Protective toe bumper protects the boot (and you) from rock damage. EVA anatomical footbeds conform to your underfoot's shape. In-Board compression-molded EVA midsoles; Air Cushion heel pockets absorb shock. Vibram Hiker traction with deep 6 mm lugs.
