Immensely comfortable, breathable and light, despite their bulky appearance, the Mion Tide Scramble takes on streets, trails, and streams with ease. My feet are well protected in the neoprene booty which is caged by puffy foam ribs.

The Gripstick sole is siped and very grippy on every surface I've encountered outdoors. I don't go running up painted walls and bounding on metal poles and such, so I wouldn't know about that. Siping means there are thin slits cut into the rubber which open up only when traction is needed most. This makes it more durable than a lug sole and superior on smooth surfaces, but you won't get the same traction on dirt and grass. The rubber is no Stealth (thank God, these are non-marking), but it definitely outclasses most others.

Cushioning is much better than a typical water shoe. The molding insoles that come with every Mion shoe are very pleasant to the feet. Once I figured out the laces, my feet felt supported and stable. The wide, rounded base should minimize danger to the ankles.

As for the appearance, they are not some sleek fashion-friendly shoe, but I like the way they look. It just takes some getting used to.
