Misty Mountain Cadillac
Price Paid: $75
I got a deal on the older style harness (no fleece-lining) through Mountain Gear. This harness does a good job overall. I would say its weakest aspect is durability, second to value. The first things to go were the leg loop straps on the back of the harness. Then the waistbelt started to tear a bit in the back. Six gear loops are nice, and it was pretty comfortable at hanging belays (though I did expect more from such a pricey harness).
The new fleece-lined version seems like it would be hot in summer, but perhaps more comfortable. Worth it if it fits you well and you have the money. Definitely check out the Yates Astroman and Metlius Safetech. I may end up purchasing the Misty Mountain Sonic for my next harness...it seems a bit less overkill for cragging.
Where to Buy
Here's what other sites are saying:
The Cadillac is versatile enough to be used on big walls, but shines brightest on multi pitch and traditional routes. Constructed wide for comfort, the Cadillac incorporates an inner waistbelt layer that spreads forces over 2.7 times more padded surface area, making it more comfortable at belays and working out crux sections. The contour cut waist is 4.3" wide in the back for support, narrowing to just 2" at the tie in. Adjustable leg loops taper from a wide 3" in back to an unobtrusive 1.3" in front, and they're wrapped in a wide lightweight nylon webbing which spreads forces over twice the surface area for comfort.
Cruise the big walls in the comfort and style of a Cadillac -- if you plan on spending a long time in your harness make sure it's the right one. Totally reworked, this harness is packed with features including a fleece lined foam swami pad and double buckle entry system for total adjustability. Leg loops are fully adjustable, droppable with comfort foam padding; quick-release adjustable hold up system. As with all good big-wall harnesses the Cadillac features a full strength belay loop and rear haul loop and captive reinforced tie-in points. Keep your gear organized with 6 gear loops; 4 are positioned up and 2 are angled down; double buckle entry allows for symmetric gear loop positioning. Ergonomic buckles with "Danger" stamp alerts you if your harness is not doubled back. To ensure excellence each Misty Mountain harness is manufactured by one sewer from start to finish, and hand inspected for quality.
