I've had many shoes for adventure racing, but I still mourn the discontinuation of the Vista Diez.

All Montrails feel stable, hold your heel well, and have a good toe box, but they are heavy and soak up water like a sponge. The Vista Diez had all the Montrail benefits, but felt light and with two drilled holes drained and dried well.

I owned four pairs.

Great frigging shoes.

Here's what other sites are saying:

Montrail's Diez Vista was created as a superior motion control shoe for long distance runners, over-pronators, and heavier runners. The Diez Vista combines a highly supportive upper design with the stable and smooth-riding IntegraRide midsole for a light, high performance shoe that makes no compromises.

The Diez Vista 50km is a difficult, competitive race that demands precise footwork to run it fast. It is rooty, rocky, often muddy, and steep. This shoe is perfect for such conditions. The IntegraRide platform gives a low-to-the-ground ride that is smooth and stable and able to handle tight downhill corners, sidehills, and steep climbs. A very smooth transition from heel strike to toe-off combined with excellent forefoot flexibility, gives the shoe a road shoe-like feel. As such, it is nice for training on roads, or for using roads to get to the real terrain. The Diez Vista has a blucher-style lacing system, allowing the upper to expand and contract widely in the forefoot to accommodate a range of foot widths. The midfoot portion of the upper is reinforced with synthetic leather underneath the mesh for secure foot support. Finally, the midsole is medially posted and has a high-density rim around the heel to create a very stable platform for mild to heavy pronators.
