Moss Tents Thunderdome GT

rated 5.0 of 5 stars

Moss Tents is no longer in business, and the Thunderdome GT has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best four-season tents for 2024.

I am just writing this to praise the tent...bought it during the late nineties and it is one of the most superb tents that I ever had. Once you pitch it, get inside and forget about the wind and rain no matter what the intensity is.

During summer, just unzip the upper vents and the door vents and you will be okay. The tent is extremely weatherproof and a "climatebender."

A friend borrowed it in his expedition, and it withstands the wind and snow of Mt. McKinley, and again on Mt. Everest. I got a shattered pole once and the store replaced it immediately (on the spot) and cost me nothing, even it is my fault.

Sadly, it is not in the market anymore.

Price Paid: $475

This tent is the best of the best and for only 200 bucks at rei outlet! Do yourself a favor and buy one of these mommas. I have owned this tent for a year and a half so I am not excited because i just bought it and do not know any better, but I am excited that I made such a wonderful investment.

Great breathing in the summer and warm in the winter. It is utterly rain-proof and the thing looks so darn good. You will love it when you go car camping in the summer (cause it breathes so well) and some jelouse red-neck in a coleman comes over to check out your uber-cool Moss.

I bought this tent in summer 2001 at an REI outlet in California. It is basically a perfect tent for two people. The four-pole design is extremely sturdy even in high winds, and the rain fly and vestibule is wonderfully dry. It packs down pretty small and is light enough to take on a bicycle.

A segment of my tent pole broke the third or fourth time I pitched it, and upon returning to civilization, the warranty had me a new pole within a few days. Moss is a good company and I would deal with them again.

Sleeps: 2
Ease of Setup: very easy -- 5 minutes tops
Price Paid: $300

This tent is beautiful! Sleeps 2+ which means it sleeps two very comfortably. Amazing venting options which makes summer camping a "breeze." But it is one rock-solid winter/mountaineering tent. 12 square foot hooped vestibule is large enough for 2 people's gear and allows for one person to crouch inside and change/cook whatever. Took it to 10,000 in the winter and kept warm all night. Took it car camping this summer and knew I bought the best two person tent available. The best part is that it only cost $200 at rei-outlet.com

Design: four season
