This is by far the best shell i have ever owned. i bought this jacket for a 2 month canoeing trip up to the Canadian arctic tundra. the beryllium handled magnificently, keeping me dry through driving rains and 60 mile an hour winds.it is very light considering the number of features it has.

i have not used it for backpacking, but i think it will work fine for light weight trips.

Fabric: 3L Gore Tex Pro Shell
Price Paid: $330

BULLET PROOF! Gore-Tex 3L Pro Shell is the best material you can get for durability, waterproofness and breathability. The breathability is amazing. I have been completely sweaty from a fast approach and then slowed down and all the moisture evaporated immediately. The coat can breathe!

Also, the coat is windproof. I have tested this in 85 mph winds with 15 F temp. It doesn't let ANY wind through. Obviously, it's waterproof. Many jackets are waterproof, but the best can breathe with Gore-Tex Pro Shell and have welded zippers with sealed seams. The Pro shell material breathes better, lasts longer and will not tear when climbing rock or skiing trees.

This coat has it all, plus it looks good. For sizing, I am 6'1" 185 lbs and have an X-large. I could probably have gone with a Large but this gives me layering room.

If you are looking for a lightweight winter hardshell, look no further. This is the jacket for you. It has enough room to stretch, fits well with a pack and the pit zips help maintain temperature when hiking.

I purchased this about a year ago to replace an old jacket the was damaged. I tried many jackets and found that this had the features I wanted. Bomb proof, pit zips and a large inside pocket for my water bottle. Most jackets on the market today leave out the water bottle pocket. Why I do not know...

E-vent may have been a better fabric choice, but it is very new to the market and the models available at the time did not meet my needs.

Price Paid: $219

Like other MH products, this jacket hold up to its reputation. Very lightweight shell that holds up to rough mountaineering and climbing in wet weather. This jacket has kept me dry on the mountain in torrential downpours that seemed to last for days. Need to order one size larger than actually wear for layering though.
