Mountain Hardwear Ethereal Parka

rated 5 of 5 stars

The Ethereal Parka has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best waterproof jackets for 2024.

This shell replaced my MH exposure jacket (2ply GTX) which broke down after half a year. I only had to pay a little extra.

It's very well equiped. With much attention to detail.

Fleece to protect your chin from the zipper.

Perfect hood with which you keep good vision anyway your head is turned.

Smouth fabric (reinforced parts almost as smouth as non-reinforced).

No big TNF-patches

Innerlayers accessible through two zippers next to chest pockets.

Two napoleon-pockets (I love them)

-> I wished it would rain and snow every day.

Fabric: 3 layer GTX
Fill: no fill
Price Paid: $425

Wonderful YEAR-ROUND jacket. Extremely lightweight. Be careful though--the water bottle pocket is perfect for a nalgene, but after some use it ripped under the weight of the bottle. Kind of wish I'd splurged for the FTX, but this is lighter and you don't have to deal with a powder skirt in the summer. DEFINITELY WORTH THE COST.

Fabric: 3-ply gore-tex
Price Paid: $390

The best shell I've owned. It's been with me on numerous winter trips. I appreciate its simple design and light weight. The fitted hood and seam-sealed pit zips are great pluses.

Fabric: 3 ply gore-tex
Price Paid: $360

Best Gore-Tex shell I have ever owned. Previously owned TNF Kichatna and Climb Very Light. The are both blown away by this shell.

Fabric: 3-ply Gore-tex
Price Paid: $350

Fantastic all-around parka, especially for people with large shoulders. Owned TNF Kichatna and LA Flash, both were restrictive and uncomfortable.

Fabric: Gore-Tex
Price Paid: $350
