Rating: rated 5 of 5 stars
Fabric: Nylon, Conduit
Fill: Promaloft

I live in Southeast Alaska where it rains all summer and snows all winter. I was looking for a tough coat that would cover me for an entire trip: first on the boat, then through thick temparate rain forest and back again. I wanted something I could lounge on the porch in or wear hunting or skiing. The Groove is that coat. The nylon they use is thick as nails and the Primaloft insulation is perfect thickness -- layer under it or wear it alone on above zero days. The one drawback is the lack of elastic on the cuffs, but other than that it's everything I hoped for. Definitly not a warm weather shell though!

Over a full range of hard-weather gear, Mountain Hardwear has made a science of keeping warmth in and weather out. It shows in the Groove jacket. The nylon dobby weave outer fabric is rugged enough to withstand the stresses of any mountaineering and snowsport activity. Conduit™ laminate technology is waterproof, windproof and breathable, ensuring that perspiration vapor escapes and you remain dry and warm. Primaloft® One insulation provides a high degree of heat retention while remaining lightweight and low bulk. The CoolMax&$174; mesh and taffeta liner wicks away moisture and moves easily over base layers. Features an ergonomic hood with a shape-holding, laminated brim; the hood can be zipped off when not required. Interior features include a zippered pocket, mesh water bottle holder and powder skirt. Exterior features include a full-lenth, double-flapped zipper, a hidden Napolean pocket, two zippered hand pockets and one zippered chest pocket. Plus, a pit zip runs along the bottomside of each arm. Pit zips, chest and hand pockets all feature water-resistant zippers underneath weather-protective flaps. The Micro-chamois lined collar and chin protector ensure day-long comfort from annoying fabric and zipper abrasion; hand pockets are lined with fleece. Hem, hood and collar drawcords with toggle locks are designed to adjust easily using one hand. Closeout.
