User Review: Mountain Hardwear Men's Piute 20°
Rating: ![]()

Price Paid: Don't remember, probably less than $100.
Summary
This is a fabulously comfortable bag. I've owned this for at least 5 years and have slept comfortably well below 20 degree rating. It is a little heavy when compared to expensive 800 plus down bags, but it is roomy enough, filled well enough to get a good night's sleep in almost any conditions.
Pros
- True to temp rating
- Roomy
- Packs reasonably small
- Decent weight
Cons
- Can't think of any
As stated in the summary above, this has been an excellent bag for me and the uses I put it to.
Several nights last spring in Yellowstone with the temp at 26 in the morning, not a problem with this bag.
On a recent trip to Guadalupe Mtns we had one night right at 20 degrees, and the next night it was 14! Definitely below the published temp for this bag. With long johns on I was comfortable the entire night. Never woke up from being cold.
Also, as I am a smaller guy (5'6"- 160 lbs) a regular length bag has plenty of room for me. I really can roll around in the bag and not feel cramped or restricted.
This bag does have a full length zipper which makes entry and exit an easy, non-complicated affair.
I have used the bag on a couple pack trips where of course a lighter weight bag would have been great, but for the cost vs benefit I'm quite satisfied. It is NOT an ultra-light 800+ fill wt bag, but it doesn't cost like one either.
If cost and comfort are part of the equation for you when gear shopping, I don't think you can go wrong with the Piute.
