Really great waterproof shell. Hood is a little difficult to manage at times — sometimes it comes over your eyes when it's not cinched down tight. Zippers work great and the velcro does too. Excellent waterproof top layer that I combine with down to keep me warm and dry when I'm in the cold. Reasonable warmth in breezy conditions too, so it can be worn over your base layer in case you hit a summer rainstorm.
Best for people who need a light and packable rainproof layer. Highly recommended
- Protects against rain and some wind.
- Good adjustments to ensure airflow or no airflow as necessary.
- Zip pockets
- Sometimes the hood obscures my vision — can be tricky to adjust
- No compartment for hood, but not a big deal.
This is a sweet top layer that has kept me dry in several parts of the world in varying conditions. It's pretty tough and looks great after several adventures. Fit is adjustable with elastic cords and spring clamps and seems fine for me, whether wearing it with just a layer or all of them underneath. The only gripe is sometimes the hood is a bit of a bear.
Seems quite weatherproof. Never noticed a problem with rain/sleet/snow, etc. making its way THROUGH the jacket.
Occasionally can be a bit muggy (when you work hard) if you don't open it up for airflow, but it is designed for flow — not a design flaw at all — all in how you use it.
Seems to have a bit of wicking action, but that's what your base layer is supposed to do. Not a good idea to only wear this and nothing under it. ;)
Keeps you warm on its own in cool weather and in conjunction with layers in cold weather. Layers well and no fit problems with any number of layers I've tried — from 2 to 5 or so. Maybe a tiny bit wide in the mid-section when cinched all the way down, but it's a rain jacket, not a slim fit suit jacket.
Two zip pockets are useful and big enough for most of what you'd want to carry in them. Zippers work great. Drawcords work well too, although the hood adjustment is a bit gnarly. Cuffs are fitted to keep water out.
Never had any major problems with this jacket in all kinds of conditions. Used in Africa, Asia, and Alaska in varying climates for over a year.
