Being new to backpacking I was afraid, I'd pick the wrong pack. I took two three day hikes in the Northern Cascades and Grand Tetons. The internal frame shaped right to my back. The pack put weight right on my hips. I hear that's what its supposed to do. There are a few simple adjustments if one position gets tiring. The other guy I hiked with was a NOLS veteran and he was jealous of the simple inline design of the pack. No complaints from me yet.

- Sierra Trading Post

Mountain Hardwear designed the Trance Backpack for alpine climbers who demand a purely functional, streamlined pack with very little weight. The Trance Backpack weighs only 3lb 9oz (medium size) and can be stripped even further by removing the lid, waist-belt, and back pad. To squeeze the most out of everything, Mountain Hardwear gave the Trance a back panel that doubles as a 38in bivy pad, a waist belt with slots for carabiners to rack ice screws, and a roll-top design that seals even when the lid is taken off. The Trance Backpack is the perfect size for a two- or three-day alpine assault.
