Nuun Active has become my all-season, all activity, go-to electrolyte drink.

Pros

  • Great taste
  • Minimal ingredients—NO artificial food dyes
  • Cost-effective ($6.50/ 12 tablets)
  • Low in sugar and calories
  • Convenient packaging
  • Excellent for endurance activities

Cons

  • Seasonal flavors are not available year round
  • The taste takes some getting used to

I picked up my first tube of Nuun this summer after being drawn to the aestethically pleasing packaging and the myriad of flavors to choose from. I picked up strawberry lemonade and fruit punch and used them that same day.

A little backstory: I have been searching for an electrolyte replacer for awhile as I can't stomach any of the pre-made sugar ladened drinks on the market (I get terrible acid reflux from them and it negatively affects my performance every time).

So far I have tried the following Nuun Active flavors (in no particular order of preference): tri-berry, watermelon, orange, strawberry lemonade, fruit punch, and kona kola.

There isn't a flavor I don't enjoy, though it did take me a few times drinking it to acquire a taste for it. Now, I enjoy it so much that I even drink Nuun on rest days, especially if I feel a bit dehydrated. I also love that Nuun mixes well with coconut water for an added boost of electrolytes!

In addition to Nuun Active, they also make energy and natural electrolyte tablets. I've not been able to locate them yet, but when I do I will be sure to post a review.

The bottom line:

Nuun is my go-to electrolyte drink and I carry a tube with me wherever I go.

It returns electrolytes to the body. It comes in a variety of flavors that can address the taste of certain water purifiers or the water source.

Pros

  • Electrolytes
  • Masks any "taste" of the water

Cons

  • One more piece of trash that you need to haul out

These tablets are probably the only reason why I can get my 12-year-old daughter to do section hikes with me.  The "taste" of some of the water was just too much for her, but the tablets return electrolytes to her body and mask any "taste."
