Here's what other sites are saying:

This Ortovox shovel is tough, grips the snow and is lightweight. Kodiak is a large brown bear of Alaska. This shovel by the same name is just as powerful and resistant - but not nearly as lightweight. The scoop resembles a bear's paw: voluminous, sharp edged and unbreakable. It is made exclusively of high performance, tempered aluminum which is light and extremely stiff. The D-handle allows for the best possible shoveling; its sanded grip makes slipping impossible. The shovel has a telescopic design and is extremely resistant to breakage due to its oval shape. The unique design enables it to quickly transform into a hatchet with a D-handle. Material: 6061 aluminum T6. The Kodiak is one of the toughest snow shovels in the avalanche rescue industry. Available Color(s): Blue Saphire, Charcoal. Features: Easy-plug scoop function. D-handle. Telescopic shaft. Oval schaft cross-section. Sanded grip-zone. Non-slip treads. Sharp blade. Weight: 770 g. Shovel handle folded: 49 cm. Total length: 88 cm. Scoop: 30 x 23 x 6 (cm). Sanded grip: The shovel fits better in the hand by the sanded grip. Power is transferred to the shovel scoop directly, as the hand doesn't slip from the shaft. Kodiak chopping function: The Kodiak's chopping action is probably the most sturdy on the market. The shovel scoop is slid onto the shaft at a 90 degree angle. Thus aluminum fits on aluminum - a virtually indestructible constellation. The chopping action significantly supports the rescue of buried victims with two or more helpers. Strategic switching between the shovel position and chopping action (removal of snow) can save power and time considerably. D-handle: The D-handle is regarded as the king of all handles. Its orientation and ergonomics allow the maximum lift. Thus you get tired less quickly and can remove more snow at the same time. Conical shank: The shovel shaft has an oval cross section. The failure characteristics are thus much higher than round cross sections. The same is true for the stiffness. The force transmission and thus the shoveling performance are much higher. 6061 aluminum T6: The best type of aluminum that we use in our high-end safety products. The relationship between weight and rigidity is optimally explored. The 6061 aluminum T6 is used in all Ortovox shovel shafts and scoops of the Kodiak and Grizzly models. Telescopic shank: Due to the telescopic shank you get a better leverage while shoveling. At the same time the retracted shaft can be carried in any small backsack
