Took this bag to Asia for a three week trip, Japan, Hong Kong, Macau, Bangkok, North Vietnam. Wanted a pack I could bring on the plane and travel with. Been traveling on and off for 30 years...liked the wheels. I have a larger Eagle Creek bag but would have had to check it. Great thing is that this bag will stand on its own most of the time, Eagle Creek (larger duffle) would always fall over.
This bag worked well for my needs. The day pack was made so that I didn't have to worry about anyone getting into it while I was on a subway...good feature. (new model not quite so good but has other good features.) I packed it really full as I had a Hennessy Hammock to sleep in and a cool max bag liner to use to keep warm. I travel with a small down jacket which becomes my pillow with a travel case, a few pairs of pants...a few shirts, sox and undies start to add up. Add a few gifts and the bag is full. Stuffed it really full but somehow everything would fit. Can't believe the zippers didn't give out!
Using it as a backpack in the Golden Triangle was fair. With the daypack attached the profile becomes rather large for some trails if you have to turn sideways much. Had maybe 30-35 lbs in it and would not recommend it for more than that.
I had an older model which Osprey replaced after the lower handle was broken (rivet let go.) The new model has a molded frame...better. All in all a favorite for travel with some backpacking...most of the time I roll with it.
