Over the past year or so I have become very enamored with compression socks, having tested them skiing, biking, hiking, and backpacking. I have found them to provide benefits that make my outdoor activities easier on my body during exercise and allow for a quicker recovery.

Woven from a combination of Cashmerino (a yarn made from Merino wool and Cashmere), Rayon from bamboo, and Spandex the Sockwell Stabilizer sock is packed with features. The Cashmerino provides thermoregulation and breathability while the bamboo rayon helps fight odor control. Mesh breather panels surround the mid-foot help the removal of excess heat and moisture .

Spandex has been woven throughout the sock with increased use in the plantar tendon and achilles tendon areas for additional support. Spandex stabilization is also featured surrounding the ankle area. The sock features a seamless toe, a nicely turned top welt, and additional cushioning under the ball and heel.

Testing was done throughout the summer and fall with the socks being worn hiking, backpacking, biking, and in the gym. A medium size worked great for my size 9 feet. Putting the sock on I immediately feel the difference. This is a firm compression sock. While the toes have plenty of room to move around, from the ball of the foot to the cuff I can really feel the support.

Worn with a variety trail runners, depending on the activity, the socks provide me with as much ankle support as some ankle high boots. When hiking or using the treadmill the socks do a nice job of adding to the stabilization of my lower foot and arch.

Breathability has been good during all sorts of weather, and my feet have remained blister free during use. The tight top welt is both comfortable and helps keep dirt from migrating into the sock. While I count on my shoes to provide me with a cushioned insole, the extra cushioning at the toe and heel aid in providing additional comfort during exercise.

I feel that these socks help a lot in the recovery phase of my exercise, my feet never seem to feel overworked afterward.
