Outdoor Edge SwingBlade

rated 4.0 of 5 stars
photo: Outdoor Edge SwingBlade fixed-blade knife

The knife looks good, and is very sharp, and works well. However, it requires care similar to carbon steel. If it is left exposed to blood and moisture for extended periods of time, the blade edges and the finish will suffer The lifetime warrantee does not cover rust or corrosion. This knife requires more TLC than other stainless steel knives.

Pros

  • Sharpness
  • Ease of use

Cons

  • Prone to rusting much more than other stainless steels

The knife as supplied out of the box is very sharp. Extra care should be invested when switching blades. Contact with either edge will draw blood (or tendons).

The first time it was used, it was not cleaned right away as recommended in the instructions, because I believed a $70 stainless steel knife should not need alot of care. BIG MISTAKE. A week later I found both blades heavily rusted and pitted. The factory does not cover rust or corrosion in the lifetime warrantee.

The knife works well for the intended purpose, but the steel is only SEMI stainless, and requires more PM than most stainless steel knives. If you can live with the susceptability to rust, and use accordingly, it will not dissapoint. The first time it is put away dirty or wet, it may dissapoint.

Gutted my first deer with this knife last week. Opened him up like a zipper and skinner blade made short work of removing the entrails. Cleaned up easy and dressed blade for next time. Still seems sharp. Good product.
