Rating: rated 5 of 5 stars
Source: bought it new
Price Paid: $89

Summary

The most versatile day-pack I've had in years. Takes a beating like no other pack pack. Great for everyday use or tackling 14ers.

Pros

  • Versitile
  • Light
  • Mean

Cons

  • None

Will hold enough for a 14+ hour trek and doesn't feel awkward if you only have a few things in there for a short hike. Enough pockets to utilize all your equipment but not too many that you don't know what to do with them all. Pockets on the sides fit Nalgenes amazingly well.

Here's what other sites are saying:

Patagonia's Chachabuco Pack is a two-compartment daypack with a padded laptop sleeve, sternum strap, webbing waist belt, airflow-mesh shoulder straps and back panels, and a mounted shock cord for additional capacity; holds most 17 inch laptops.

- CampSaver.com

The largest daypack from Patagonia, the 32-liter Chacabuco is commute, hike and travel friendly, thanks to a padded 17-in.-laptop sleeve and plenty of pockets to help you keep your gear shipshape.

- REI

Apart from having a very unique name, the Chacabuco Backpack is Patagonia's largest daypack for those who can't leave gear behind. This big backpack boasts two generous main compartments, one with a padded sleeve for most 17-inch laptops. The padded sleeve also doubles as an insulated sleeve for reservoirs thanks to the integrated tube port. Breathable Air Flow mesh makes sure the back panel and shoulder straps are comfy on or off the trail. Patagonia made the Chacabuco out of a highly durable recycled polyester with a DWR coating for superior water-resistance. This pack also features a zippered secure pocket for quick access to essentials, small pockets for sunglasses and car keys, stretch-woven pockets for water bottles, and shock cords for bulky items like an extra layer.

- Backcountry.com

Patagonia Chacabuco Pack 32L - When you need everything for anything, grab the Chacabuco and go. It houses all your gear in three separate compartments, has reflective piping for night commutes and an exterior shock cord for additional stowage. The generous main compartment carries most things, and comes with a padded sleeve that's raised to protect up to a 17-inch laptop. Equipped with a tube port, the sleeve also accepts a hydration reservoir when you leave your laptop at home. A secondary pocket stores everyday necessities, like keys, pens and a phone. A zippered outside pocket holds power bars, and a microfleece-lined top pocket protects sunglasses or an audio device. Two stretch pockets keep water bottles within reach. The Chacabuco's suspension system uses airflow mesh shoulder straps and back panel, a webbing waistbelt and a sternum strap with an emergency whistle. Compression straps stabilize the load. Made from 420-denier 100% nylon oxford plain weave with an 840-denier 100% ballistics nylon bottom. The lining is 200-denier 100% polyester. All fabrics have a Deluge DWR (durable water repellent) finish.
