Patagonia Ice Nine Jacket

rated 3.5 of 5 stars

The Ice Nine Jacket has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best waterproof jackets for 2024.

This is Patagonia's top of the line jacket which is quite a joke. Actually, the fit and design of the jacket is a failure if you are a serious outdoor user. This jacket is so bulky and the length of the jacket makes the use of the jacket limited to only as full protection rainwear. Construction, though high quality, doesn't have the fit and finish of Arc'Teryx. Arc'Teryx jackets just fit and feel better.

If this jacket works for you, you're lucky. I would recommend this jacket for citywear. It seems that the designers of the Ice-Nine Jacket would rather put this jacket in production before giving this jacket to REAL HARDCORE USERS to test in REAL conditions. As a result, this is no more than a city jacket for heavy rain, snow, wind protection.

I will have to go back to Arc'Teryx as they are more "well-rounded" jackets for real outdoor users. I have got a refund for this jacket and I will never go back to Patagonia anymore. Lastly, Patagonia would never return my e-mail so shame on them!!!!!

Fabric: Gore-Tex XCR
Price Paid: $275

Mattias sounds like an Arc'Teryx rep. I have used this jacket extensively for three years, mostly snowboarding. If you do a lot of powder riding, especially through the trees, this jacket is great. Bomber outer fabric takes on the sharpest branches with ease. The only issue I have is that the interior XCR fabric has worn through to the outer shell in two spots where the waist drawcord is. I think it is due to my backpack moving around and rubbing the jacket against my pants. I will be sending it to Patagonia for repair or replacement...you can't beat their warranty.

Fabric: gore-tex XCR 3 layer
Price Paid: pro deal $200

Great fit, very strong and breathable... roomy enough and, of course it comes with the Patagonia warranty. It works better than the previous Torre Jacket which is still a good piece of gear. If you can afford it, just go and get one, you won't regret it !!!
