Rating: rated 4 of 5 stars

Summary

An all-around solid choice for outdoor travels. Took this with me trekking through Northern Canada, held up great, super durable, good colour. I'm 5'5", 125 lbs and a medium was perfect but I probably could have gotten the small as well.

Pros

  • Durability

Cons

  • Ripped velcro on sleeve after a few weeks of rough handling, nothing serious

This fit extremely well, I like things a little loose and roomy for layering when backpacking so medium was perfect.

Held up well in snow and rain.

Vents work as expected.

Perfect as an outer layer for harsher weather.

Great item.

Received it as a gift a few months ago and its still great after lots of wear in rough conditions.

Here's what other sites are saying:

Patagonia's Super Alpine Jacket is newly updated and sharpened but provides the same trusted protection, in a lighter nimbler package still rich with features critical to the habitual mountain user.

Wind howls, spindrift blasts and cornices loom across ridges. Up or down? Those who endure big mountains - whether ski mountaineering or alpine climbing - know that bomber protection is as crucial as decision making. The Super Alpine Jacket protects against the worst possible weather with the best available waterproof/breathable and windproof fabrics. It features 3-layer nylon new generation GORE-TEX(R) Pro fabric - now significantly more breathable, but with the same renowned protection and durability - with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish, a tough nylon outer shell with key-area reinforcements, and a distinct micro-grid interior that helps optimize breathability. Two harness-compatible handwarmer pockets have a clean, pressed-pleat design that lets you see your feet but also allows the pockets to expand without bulky seams. Trim, watertight zippers for the pockets and pit zips are laminated in place to reduce weight and bulk; a small internal zippered chest pocket stows small valuables. The underarm gussets keep the jacket in place when you lift your arms, and the Gasket Dry Cuffs seal out the elements at the wrists. Our helmet-compatible, 2-way-adjustable Optimal Visibility Hood? has a laminated visor and sleek Touch Point System? embedded cord locks (in the hood and hem) for quick adjustment without opening the jacket.

Blue skies and calm winds do nothing for you. You ferret out insane ice overhangs and the promise of white-out conditions when winter descends. Refined for 2014, the lighter, stronger, and meaner Patagonia Women's Super Alpine Jacket guarantees to protect you from the weather, but offers no such assurances about your physical well-being when you're taking on the trials and tribulations of the WI 10 ice of Helmcken Falls, Canada. New materials helped this hard shell drop well below the one-pound mark, where it now barely tips the scale at a meager 13. 8 ounces. Rugged 40D nylon, reinforced with 40D ripstop nylon in high-wear areas stands stalwart against sharp ice sharps, rude ropes, and the errant ski pole tip. Gore-Tex Pro guaranteed waterproof, breathable membrane lies between the rugged exterior and Gore Micro Grid Backer. This highly breathable backer slips over your many layers with ease, won't get caught up on the finer points (of your gear). If the sun peeks out from behind the clouds or the temps take a turn for the worse (yes, that means getting warmer), open the underarm vents for an instant hit of cool air. The hood slides over your helmet, and the Touch Point adjust system lets you fix your lid from either the hem or the hood. A laminated brim helps shield your face from blowing snow or pelting rain. Pleated chest pockets play nice with your harness so you can still grab an energy gel or leftover Halloween candy for a quick hit pick-me-up when you're within spitting distance of the summit.
