New design works even better. Fully adjustable modular construction allows for a tool that works great in alpine, ice falls, snow.
The 3mm tapered pick head seems to always find its place in the ice with often the first strike. Grips can be removed to plunge the snow better, if so desired. (550g) Has good clearance on steep ice to save you knuckles.
Best ice tool I have ever used.

The Petzl Quark is a versatile ice axe, designed primarily for technical mountaineering and for ice climbing.
Designed for vertical ice and mixed climbing, the classic Petzl Quark ice tool with hammer has a balanced, smooth swing and an aggressive pick design for solid placements. Durable, forged Cascade pick is designed for good penetration in all types of ice; pick is beveled for easy removal from ice. Curve and geometry of the shaft make for smooth, efficient swinging and solid placements. No-slip dual-density grip increases climbing performance. Griprest at the bottom of the shaft increases climbing comfort and allows you to climb leashless; can be removed for plunging into snow. Hammer shatters loose ice and can be jammed in cracks. Short steel spike on the end of the shaft provides traction while walking. Hex wrench (included) removes pick and hammer components; replacement components sold separately. Petzl Quark ice tool shaft length is 50cm.
Petzl gave the Quark Ice Tool a complete overhaul to make it one of the most versatile choices for taking on steep ice and alpine terrain. While the Quark has been a staple in the ice game for years, things can always be better. Petzl added a redesigned pick that can be used with a head weight for better penetration in bulletproof Alaskan blue or without a weight when you want to shave grams. This tool can still be used with a leash, but Petzl designed it with leashless use in mind and added an adjustable trigger for increased swing precision and an upper grip to let you match on steep ice. The new spike design easily accepts a tether, so you don't risk dropping your tool from 4,000 feet up some alpine wall. The Quark can be used with a hammer, adze, or no attachment at all. Either way, it's still much lighter than the previous version.
