Rab Xenon X Jacket

rated 5 of 5 stars
photo: Rab Xenon X Jacket synthetic insulated jacket

Pros

  • Warm
  • Windproof
  • Awesome hood
  • Layers well
  • Durable
  • Cut/tailoring/fit

Cons

  • Doesn't breathe well
  • Over $200 retail price

This is the best warmth-for-weight ratio synthetic jacket I have found. Totally windproof, and RAB has made this jacket with VERY few seams so the wind can't even find a way in through the Pertex Quantum. It has Primaloft Gold Active 60 grams, with double in the chest area to create hand warmer pockets.

I can truly say, if you like the Pat Nano, YOU WILL LOVE THIS. This jacket seals up every cuff, collar, and seam up against your skin, and combined with the tailoring of it having few seams to begin with, it traps SO MUCH heat. I love this jacket for cold weather. It can keep you much warmer than other jackets because of all the details RAB covers in this piece. It does have a European cut to it though, so keep that in mind if you are wearing it casually.

I would DEFINITELY recommend this jacket to anyone looking for a synthetic midlayer for belay or alpine. This is very warm but doesn't breathe as well as something with stretch, so I wouldn't advise this for long periods of active movement.

Background

I have put this jacket through two winters and it's holding up great! I loved it so much, I purchased another in a different color, even though this one is still in great condition. I wanted to make sure I would have this jacket, hopefully, a lifetime.
